she was a great travel partner. when we were on long bus rides/flights we got a tad bit delirious.
So anyways, while we were on our trip we did a really good job of journaling what happened each day. natalie was nice enough to type it up for me, so i'm going to put that in here, and then add parts to it. It is really detailed...so hopefully you'll feel like you were right there with us! I'm going to put one journal entry up a day, because otherwise it is just WAY too much.
It is sort of in note form, so bare with it.
Day ONE: Saturday, 2/4/11
6am- car parked behind Mama vivi's car. ¡No pudimos salir! (that was scary, the first thing that could go wrong did go wrong)
6:15am- accidently locked out Mama Vivi while looking for colectivo.
6:23am- sketchly asked "security guard" to drive us in his van to bus terminal*
arrive safely 3 minutes before departure. (Lesson learned: We should trust people more in times of need).
* wise decision to pass up ride from 3 creepers in a broken down car.
6:35am boarded bus and leave for Santiago! (Pass right by Abby's house on the way- No sightings of Mama Vivi, hope that means she made it inside!).
8:15am Arrive @ Pajaritos in Sanitago, right away got on centro...aeropuerto (couldn't remember the name of the bus)= 1400
8:28am MADE IT TO AIRPORT TWO MINUTES EARLY. checked in. good thing they let us on.(it said on our reservation that we were supposed to call at least 24 hours ahead to check in, but we didn't)
9:00am starbucks... and waiting for 3 hours! Trash woman amost took away nat's expensive starbucks coffee.
11:45am Boarded plane to leave. Airplane definelty not Jet Blue status. (nasty lunch).
2:00pm stop in Puerto Montt
3:21pm stop in... Balmaceda...? lots of old german chileans on the plane. Saw 2 bags of pan enter the plane in Puerto Montt. During trip- nada.

4pm Turbulance. Bebidas smells like toasted pan :) -> kinda gross... but abby enjoyed hers.
5:46pm In taxi going to Hostal Independencia. (7mil)
6:22pm settling into hostal. got info about reserva mañana. we were advised to "hacer dedo" ... "muy simpatico"
11:01 pm recap of evening:
-checked into hostal and got info about city and hike tomorrow
-walked to mirador a few blocks from here along the strip-club lined streets of Punta Arenas. ¡Beautiful view!... but we are looking for more.
-bought bus ticket to Puerto Natales after going to two bus companies ($4000)
-It was cold, and rainy.
-went to Unimarc (local grocery store) and bought supplies for dinner and tomorrow's lunch.
-went to kitchen to make dinner. talked with 3 british people (one who claimed to be from the "real hampshire"). Also talked withy 3 girls who are also studying at La Catolica (Mary-Grace, Lauren, Maya).
-Ate a whole bag of Pasta. admired people who had more creative meals.
Most every day we wrote goals and aspirations for the day to come. This was ours for the first day.
*GOAL: we will be more creative and healthy with our food choices. (don't let lazyness and cheapness control our decisions). -> see SWEET views tomorrow... and everyday of the trip! Obviously.
